Hale Kai # 104

We would like to welcome you to our #104 “home by the sea” in West Maui.
Step back in time and visit romantic old Hawaii during your stay at this unique condo. When you enter, our tropical and colorful décor will welcome you. This unit has reflecting mirrors which offer views of the ocean from the kitchen, living room, and dinette table.
To our guests delight, the beach and water’s edge is 50 ft. from the lanai. You will experience sunsets, rainbows, low reef tide pools, and spectacular views of Molokai and Lanai, Maui’s outer islands. Instead of a flat horizon, every day the cloud patterns change over these 3 islands. You will be able to look across to the park and watch people carry their outrigger canoes, spear fishing gear and kite boards to the sea. The green sea turtles (Honu) feed off the reef and, in the winter, the Humpback whales arrive from Alaska and can be seen from the pool deck.
For your additional comfort, we supply beach towels, hair dryers, a CD music library and DVD player (bring your own movie discs), free WI-FI, a large flat screen TV, free parking, gas BBQ’s close to pool deck, custom king bed and sofa bed in the living room and fully equipped kitchen. Sleep with the Hawaiian trade winds blowing through this heavenly condo; the north to south breezes go through the tropical louver windows and the front door through to the lanai. Ceiling fans and extra portable fans offer additional breezes. Hale Kai has a private laundry room next to the office for our guests.
Relax on the lanai with your morning latte’ (available at nearby Farmer’s Market). Sunset cocktails and pupus are enjoyable on your lanai or pool side, which is right on the ocean and just a few steps from your front door. While there are so many activities to do when visiting Maui, you may just want to lounge by the pool or under a palm tree with a good book. (books to borrow in the laundry room). Come join us!
Rates for this unit are based on two(2) occupants (additional $10/night/person), and also vary depending on season, length of stay, and whether your reservation is booked within 30 days of arrival.   Rented 1 bd condo for a week. Located right along the beach park/ocean. It was the best location, walkable to several restaurants and listening to the ocean at night. Condo was relatively quiet too except the occasional kid up at 4 am- poor parents. Condo itself is clean, simple but has everything for basic cooking. Our kids slept on the fold out couch- not comfy, but they didn’t seem to care. Bed was decent. Not squishy so that was good. Would stay again!

  I hesitate to leave a good review because Hale Kai is already booked up in advance :) We are repeat visitors and always feel welcome, spoiled, and well looked-after by the the whole team. Thank you for another moment of paradise! To note is that everything was very clean and all the bedclothes were freshly washed, including the mattress protector. We enjoy the Farmer's Market and the Fish Market for over-priced, delicious snacks and meals. Rent snorkelling gear across the street and try Honolua Bay (vehicle needed) and Airport Beach for gorgeous coral reefs (30 minute walk south)!

  Many of the comments are recognizing the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, however, they will be part of an overall experience. We have noticed a lack of upkeep in the property. Decking around pool in need of repair. Staff in office unavailable most of the time. We were in 104 and overall it was clean when we arrived, but sliding doors of shower difficult as well as door leading to patio. Difficult to open fridge without turning on the range. Need to be very careful because it happens unexpectedly. The location is spectacular and we have always enjoyed it thoroughly. Just some details need to be considered.

  Our second stay at Hale Kai was as good as the first, in a word...great. Air conditioning would be great, as we had some of the hottest weather we've ever experienced in Maui. That aside, this is reminiscent of old Hawaii. There is no noise, no glitz, no poolside bars, no porters, no room service. What you get (in 104) is 15 steps to Honokawai Park, with its little beach and families enjoying the day under canopies; a walk of 15 steps to the pool, with chaise lounges just above the rocks with all the cavorting turtles; several small centers with mom and pop stores and restaurants. We could go on, but that's the picture. Be ready to drive a ways to activities, but that's pretty enjoyable, too. We missed snorkeling Molokini this time, so we'll be back to Hale Kai.

  This condo is a total score!! It’s not only affordable, but is right on the ocean with a perfect view of the sunset every night! There are beach chairs, a cooler, and other basics needed for beach gangs included and a kitchen to make your own food! It’s also located right by a farmers market / co-op with tons of yummy local food (try the loaded bagel and hybysicus iced tea)! The bed is insanely comfortable and you can hear the ocean all night long and feel the sea breeze while you sleep! Couldn’t recommend more!

  My husband and I kept remarking during our whole trip to Maui how lucky we were to find this condo. The photos shown don't do it justice--you are even closer to the water than it appears, about 15 paces. At night, the sound of gently crashing waves lull you to sleep. In the morning, watch whales breaching and turtles flailing in the surf as you eat breakfast on the lanai. Lana'i can literally be seen from the lanai. Whereas all nearby condos are built-up high rises, Hale Kai is only 2-3 stories, and is adjacent to a cute beach park with small shops across the street, so it feels like a little quaint oasis in an otherwise sprawling area. Inside the condo, we had everything we needed. Some areas from improvement include giving the fixtures a good scrubbing, as they were a bit sticky. It would have also been nice to have a bit hotter water in the shower. Overall, an excellent price and a wonderful experience. So glad it was available on such short notice. I would return there in a second.

  The location is very nice, you're situated next to a park, just a few units from total ocean front. Great ocean views from the lanai and interior thanks to a well planned wall mirror, and some ocean views from the master bedroom. Close to all the great Northwest sites. Comfortable bed. The negatives: Kitchen and bathroom in sore need of an update, they look decades old. Hot/cold water in the shower is terrible, you really can't take a comfortable shower because the temperature is constantly changing. We had to kill lots of roaches, although the office did have the unit sprayed which helped for a few days but then the little buggers were back. For the money it's a good value but I personally wouldn't stay there again, mostly because the roach problem.

  The whole booking process was super smoothe and Hale Kai was great about reminding me of upcoming due dates and then my upcoming trip, sending all the pertinent info I needed to actually get in to the condo and use the amenities. Office staff was very friendly when I went in to ask questions. The condo is just what we needed...a comfortable place to sleep and cook meals, saved a ton of $$$ not eating out every meal. Everything was fully stocked in the kitchen, even a few staples. There were beach chairs we used just right at the area off the patio. We just felt right at home. Putting our toes in the sand and water every morning and every night, enjoying the gorgeous sunsets. We will DEFINITELY be back to Hale Kai!!!

  Neat little condo just out of the touristy area, west coast Maui but still only 5 minutes to Ka'anapali and 10 minutes to Lahaina. Clean, quiet and Valerie the manager was super helpful.   For our needs and wants, this was the best locale. The beach was 9 steps from our lanai! Swimming pool out our front door & ocean out our back door! Close to everything we needed and yet away from huge crowds. We could walk easily to stores for daily needs as we cooked 90% of our meals at the condo to save tons of $$$. We ate a few meals out for special treats and these were close by and easy to find. We were on a snorkel trip and we had plenty of snorkeling right on our own beach as well as a short drive to a popular local snorkel bay. We did have rental car, but we could've have easily done this trip without a car or have a car for a day or two.

  I love the park-side condo - the activities in the park makes you feel like you are part of the neighbourhood. The apartment feels like home (having stayed before). Valerie is the most amazing hostess - always tending to any issues.
  
  The apartment had some issues upon arrival. Levers not working. Sliders in the bedroom not working. Not in a very clean state in regards to "deep clean". But Valerie was excellent at tending to issues and was very responsive and extremely positive. I love working with Valerie!
  
  Suggested items for 104:
  1. Deep clean the carpets.
  2. Periodically wash *all* bedding, not just the sheets. I had an asthma attack several nights in a row from the bedding. I washed all bedding including pillows, and had no further issues (I was there 3 weeks).
  3. The toilet cycled during my whole visit. It did not bother me, other than it is a waste of water. Not sure if it was ever tended to while I was there, though I did let Valerie know.
  4. There was a mouse in the flat.
  
  I loved my stay - through and through - even with the little hiccups. The neighbourhood is a charm and I loved seeing the honus!
  
  Also, the box of chocolate covered macadamia nuts was a treat, and the gift certificate for Kimo's was another *much appreciated* treat - the dinner at Kimo's was excellent! We went back again it was so good!

  Read a lot of reviews about the roosters, but really never paid much attention to them and that was sleeping with the windows open. The condo, loved it. Had everything we were looking for and then some and had been updated! Well stocked with everything u need to cook plus extras. The condo was spacious with two full bathrooms, and extras of everything we would need. The front office staff were wonderful and I had an incident with a sea urchin, they provided advice and recommendations for a doctor, thank you for that. We will definitely return u r 1/2 a block from one of the best snorkel beaches in Maui, if u are looking for a quiet place in beautiful neighbourhood, go here it will fit the bill. We were in room 200 and we loved, loved it!!!

  Everything was perfect. So glad we stayed at the condo and not one of the big hotels. Our condo had everything - and the view from our patio was beautiful - park, ocean, and the island of Lanai. Just across the park is an organic market and coffee bar. It is a couple of blocks from large market, water gear rental, and Slappy Cakes Cafe. About a 10 minutes ride from mall and downtown Lahaina. Having access to a laundry room on site was a plus for us. It was the best location experience we have had traveling. The owners supplied us with maps, island guides and attractions - a complete notebook to help plan the week. We are recommending it to all our friends who might be heading for Maui. Thank you all at Hale Kai for making it a great home away from home.

  We had a lovely stay at Hale Kai #104 . The view from the lanai was fantastic. The condo was decorated in a very tropical fashion with great art on the walls. The beach was beautiful; lots of sea turtles and whales. We hope to visit again.

  The Hale Kai has gone down hill a bit. I got fungas from the tile not being properly cleaned, The units need air conditioning, Air conditioning allows you to sleep much better than waking up sweating, other than that we had a good stay.

  I loved our stay here! This is the first place we stayed for our Hawaii trip, it was so relaxing and so perfect. The location couldn't be better; park and beach just off the lanai, farmer's market and stores across the street. The best compliment I could give this property is that if someone walked in and asked if I wanted to buy it, I'd have been signing right away! I can't wait to stay here again.

  The Hale Kai is an older, classic Hawaiian experience. The location is excellent. The pool is right on the water and I stand up paddled every day from the beach just to the north. Valerie in the front office is the best. I wish she was on the mainland working for me. The farmers market down the street is great and the coffee at Bad *** Coffee got me going every morning.

  Great location - right on the ocean, walk to restaurants and a farmer's market.   We are repeat guests & love the down-home comforts of the Hale Kai (HK)!! Easy drive from airport (45 min-hr). Stop at Costco by airport before making the drive, or Safeway in Lahaina on the way, or locally at Times Supermarket. HK parking is easy in and out. Love to stay on ground floor so can walk out our doors to pool or ocean. Have local park for great view right next to outside patio (see photo) where we ate most of our home meals-great layout! (Hardly any bugs although did see random mosquito midday.) Kitchen sufficiently equipped, Barbeques available by the pool. (Bring own spices/herbs from home, if like to cook.) Wander across street in morning for Bad *** Coffee & Farmer's Mkt M-W-F. Great local Fish Market couple of blocks down; Ono Kau Kau Mixed Plate (HA good, Chinese ok); Maui Brewing Co good lunch, as well as Aloha Mixed Grill (Lahaina). Had amazing (expensive!) dinner at Haliimaile General Store near airport our last night. Easy access to so many beautiful beaches & then back for refreshing pool dip & sitting under umbrella with a beverage (plastic glass only). Great snorkeling-Airport & Napili Beaches, among others. Tradition of blowing conch shells at sunset looking out to the ocean which is lovely. Cools down nicely at night, so we leave all the windows open to get cross breezes & hear the surf (no air conditioners but ceiling fans work great!) This year, there were several big turtles that decided to take naps on the shore right by the HK. What a bonus!! (We were alarmed at first, but found out not a big deal. Just don't crowd them or try to touch them since against the law & stresses them out.) Laundry room has shelves of books you can borrow & lost & found (borrowed 2 beach chairs from).

  Hale Kai has a great location. #104 suited us but would not please some of our friends. It could be a bit cleaner eg. bathroom corners and shower. Coffee maker and toaster should be replaced. Bedding was clean but one sheet had a small hole in it. It all seems a bit in need of updating. Everything else was fine. We would stay there again.

  The Hale Kai is a lovely condo property, with a nice, friendly staff (Valerie). However, their new reservation 'system' doesn't seem to work as described. We've been staying here for many years and have been booking our next year's visit when we arrive each year. 'Should work', according to their new reservation setup, but it does not. Our unit was already booked for next year - and there were only limited options for rental of other units at that time. We feel that the Hale Kai's new system does not reward the regular 'year after year' visitor, the visitors that most resorts would love to see. I do hope they work on improving how their reservations are handled, as we'd like to continue staying at the Hale Kai in the future.

  We have been coming to 104 for many years. In our opinion it has the best view of the park and ocean of any of the ground floor condos. Having said that, the condo is becoming a bit seedy. The carpet needed to be cleaned while we were there as it was so dirty. Thank you, Valerie! The bed is extremely uncomfortable and I do not recommend it to anyone with back or hip problems. There are also too many knick knacks in the apartment that gives it a cluttered look. Regardless, we will return next January.

  We have been to Maui multiple times but this was the best. The condo has an unobstructed view of the ocean and sunsets. We could always watch whales from the lani or the pool deck and one day we had a sea lion come up on the rocks and sun itself all day long. Most morning found sea turtles playing in surf 40 feet from our lani. Just a wonderful experience.

  The view from the pool deck outstanding, right on the water- the turtles beautiful. Our apartment had a very uncomfortable bed and the fan in the bedroom didn't work so getting a toddler to sleep was very difficult in the humid conditions. Other condo owners lovely and staff very friendly too- good bus access to whalers village.

  Spactactular views from a Maui condo as close to the Pacific as you can get. Hale Kai has a pool that touches the ocean ! You can't buy a better view of the sunset. Enjoyed our stay and will be back again. Unit #104 is well maintained and has a spacious bathroom and open modern kitchen.
